As PlantLink grew from a kickstarter project to a retail product, they needed a design and development partner to define and build a custom app and API to interact with their new hardware product line of connected devices. Additionally, they needed foundational direction on their branding, website, and packaging.
We designed and developed iOS and Android apps for their users to connect to the PlantLink base station & wireless moisture sensors. This provides the users with meaningful visualizations of the data collected. In addition to the core product, we created packaging and a consumer facing ecommerce website as they entered the market in HomeDepot retail stores.
For the web, we focused on PlantLink’s mission — to foster a deeper connection between plant owners and their plants. The site was also the main point of sale for PlantLink, including a full Spree inventory and ecommerce integration.
We created a set of vector product illustrations for PlankLink to use across their marketing and sales channels.
We built the app user experience from the ground up. We captured and prioritized user needs, following the full product life-cycle, from initial device configuration to ongoing product support. Our research first, iterative approach allowed us to hone in on user flows that minimized frustration and added value to the product.
The PlantLink native apps were built with React Native and use web sockets to receive and display data in real-time from anywhere in the world. We created a design system to bring consistency to every page and interaction. Each moisture sensor can be configured to a specific plant species and soil type from a database of over 50,000 plants.
We worked with PlantLink's printing partners to design packaging for their initial retail launch. This included a starter kit and individual sensors to extend the range of the system.
To help clarify the plant and soil configuration process, we made custom illustrations for intuitive categorization of PlantLink’s extensive plant database.
